KDS Fire & Security delivers for exclusive Mount Argus development
KDS Fire & Security combined its system expertise with attention to detail in the exclusive Mount Argus development. From sourcing top of the line systems to ensuring installation was sympathetic to the complex’s high design standards, KDS made itself an invaluable member of the team on this large-scale project.
A successful development requires several trades and suppliers to work in harmony. And in large-scale developments, like Mount Argus in Harold’s Cross, Dublin, the number of trades and suppliers is multiplied tenfold. This apartment complex has 16 blocks of 179 one, two and three bedroom apartments, eleven standalone duplexes, and several communal areas including a cinema and a gym. Working to a budget and a tight timeline, the development of this exclusive complex needed to run like a well-oiled machine.
KDS Fire & Security was recruited to install the CCTV, the intercom and the access control system throughout the Mount Argus development. Kerry Duddy and his team sourced the state-of-the-art systems and worked in tandem with the development’s electrical contractor Kieran Callaghan Electrical Ltd.

Premium access control system secures the development
Security was a critical factor in this high-end apartment complex and crucial to this was the access control system. KDS sourced the access control system from specialists ACT.
In all, there are 50 access-controlled doors in the development and residents access their particular apartment block using their swipe card. The system is easily configurable and timed zones can be created on areas such as the communal gym where access is blocked after a set time. The access control system is connected to the fire alarm system to ensure that in the event of a fire certain doors unlock automatically.
User-friendly intercom system meets high-end design requirements
Intercoms are a feature of every apartment complex but in the exclusive Mount Argus development, where sleek, modern design is a key characteristic, the intercom system needed to meet high standards. KDS sourced the sophisticated intercom system from Comelit Intercoms.
The system consists of entrance panels in each of the 16 blocks plus 179 monitors in each apartment. Access control readers are built into the back of the entrance panels, creating a clean and unobtrusive exterior and meeting the high-end design requirements. Through a video monitor in their apartment residents can view and speak to callers. A wide-angled camera at each entrance panel means residents can see callers even if they’re standing away from the camera.
Development-wide CCTV system for peace of mind
In such an exclusive complex the management company wanted to offer that extra layer of reassurance to residents. A complex-wide CCTV system was required to monitor every corner of the development and ensure residents’ security. KDS understood the requirements and sourced a Hikvision IP CCTV system from RWL Security Solutions. KDS and RWL worked closely together to design a CCTV system that met the development’s specific requirements.
Across the development approximately 134 IP CCTV cameras cover every entrance and exit door as well as common areas. In the basement car park 20 cameras were installed. This state-of-the-art camera delivers high-resolution footage and operators can remotely zoom in or adjust the camera angle if required. All cameras are recording across four Network Video Recorders, which are centrally located in a security cabinet on the basement level.

KDS Fire & Security’s work on the Mount Argus development spanned two years. From the outset, Kieran Callaghan Electrical was impressed by how KDS managed this large-scale project.
“Kerry and the team did an excellent job of managing the installation of all the systems. We could clearly see that they were comfortable with the systems they’d sourced and their expertise was clear at the end of the project when their work had no snags. Everything was completed to a very high standard and the installation of the access control, intercom and CCTV cameras was sympathetic to the overall design of the complex.
